DIRECTOR

TOM LeyLAND

Tom started his maritime career on board cargo vessels where he sailed as an apprentice deck officer over twenty years ago. Since joining the maritime industry, Tom has gained onboard experience on a variety of vessel types from container, passenger, offshore support and subsea operation ships.

Tom holds an MCA Master 3000GT and OOW Unlimited license, is certified to act as the Designated Person Ashore, Company Security Officer, Flag State Inspector and an ISM Internal Auditor.

Tom moved into yachting in 2006 as First Mate and was quickly promoted to Captain, where he served happily for over six years. In the years since, Tom has had command experience on a variety of superyachts up to 73m, where as well as providing an excellent professional service to his owners and guests, he also oversaw a variety of shipyard refit and warranty works.


Tom moved ashore, into Yacht Management in 2015, bringing across his Maritime and Yacht experience to continue serving owners and clients, ensuring the successful operation of their yachts.

Stephen started life at sea as a deck cadet and spent some time on board busy coastal vessels around the UK & Europe, qualifying as a Deck Officer and moving on to a range of vessel types including product and crude oil tankers, container vessels, mini-bulkers, fast passenger ferries, and large cruise ships.

Having come ashore in 2006 to take up a Marine Superintendent role, he then moved into Port Management and General Management roles in the UK, Europe and Middle East.

Prior to joining Nautical Management Services, Stephen worked in the Oil & Gas subsea and offshore segment for 7 years with TechnipFMC, managing construction & pipelay vessels worldwide, and latterly as Director for TechnipFMC in The Netherlands.

Stephen is qualified as a UK Master Mariner II/2 (3000GT), PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Operations, and an MBA from ESCP (Paris).

TECHNICAL MANAGER

DAVID ORMSTON

David joined the team in 2017 as a qualified Chief Engineer unlimited with over 30 years’ experience on a variety of vessels.

Moving ashore in 2003 he has built up extensive shore ISM technical management experience with employment in the positions of Fleet and Technical Manager, responsible for developing, implementing and ensuring vessel compliance with ISM on both superyachts and commercial vessels.

David, who holds a Masters degree in International Commercial Law, has experience in the role of yacht Technical Manager since 2013, managing their planned maintenance systems, refit and drydock specifications and emergency repairs.

Having been based for three years in Dubai, David has gained extensive vessel management, hull & machinery casualty experience and condition surveys, along with office and vessel audits throughout the region on both Superyachts and Commercial vessels, working with some of the world’s largest marine insurance companies.

David is the company’s Designated Person Ashore and Company Security Officer.

CREW & COMPLIANCE MANAGER

DAWN MOONEY

Dawn was previously an Accountant before joining the Nautical Management Services team in 2017 where she has been continually promoted over the year into her current role. Having worked in accounts for many years, Dawn brings a wealth of knowledge to the team with her accounting, payroll and HR experience.

 

As Crew and Compliance Manager Dawn plays a central role to the department, working directly with clients ashore and afloat. Using our bespoke Safety Management software, Horizon, Dawn is able to monitor each vessel's maintenance, drills and day-to-day procedures as well ensuring all required yacht-specific documentation is correct and up to date.

 

Dawn’s qualifications include basic and advanced STCW training to ensure she is equipped to manage any situation that may arise onboard, ensuring the utmost safety of all crew and captains. She is also a qualified Company Security Officer and Designated Person Ashore, acting as Deputy CSO and DPA for Nautical Management Services’ managed fleet and also carries out onboard Audits on behalf of the company.

VESSEL MANAGER

TONY HILDREW

Tony is a marine engineer having completed a commercial EOOW and currently holds an active Y3 CoC.

Having completed his cadetship onboard bulk carriers, Tony worked onboard Ro-Ro ferries upon qualification in the Scottish Highlands before getting his opportunity in the yachting sector. Joining the 65m MY White Rose of Drachs in 2015 for a year as 3rd engineer including a 6-month refit, Tony moved onto MY Turmoil as 2nd engineer on a temporary contract before starting on the 143m SY A whilst in build in Germany.

After 18-months onboard, Tony moved ashore to work as a refit yard project manager/engineer at A&P Group on the river Tyne where he successfully oversaw the dry docking of four CMA-CGM container ships for their 15-year class surveys as well as extensive works to cranes, main engines and ships structural steel work etc, as well as an emergency dry docking of a chemical tanker and afloat work on a heavy lift ship.

Returning to sea at the beginning of the year, Tony was the Chief Engineer onboard MY Mimi La Sardine during the final stages of the build to oversee the engineering commissioning and implementing the mini-ISM system etc. Having completed a successful charter season, we managed to entice Tony back ashore where he now works full time with us as a Project Manager.

CREW & COMPLIANCE ASSISTANT

OKSANA HUNTINGDON

Originally from Brest, Belarus, Oksana graduated with an interpreting and translating degree in 2007 in Minsk, with English language as her major. Additionally, she studied German and Spanish languages for three years, bringing a wealth of significant international experience and language skills to the NMS team. 

 

In 2008 she moved to Saint-Petersburg and began a career as an interpreter, giving her the opportunity to work for large companies on multiple projects in the automotive, construction and manufacturing industries for a total of six years.

 

In 2014, Oksana moved to the North East of England where she started a family and helped to run the family business. 

 

Working closely within our yacht management team, Oksana assists with communication between our Russian clients and also translates any yacht and project management reports and documents into Russian as required.

Sarah, originally from South Africa, began a successful career at sea at the age of 18 and spent a total of eight years working on superyachts ranging from 35 to 85 meters cruising in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Maldives. She holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Public Relations Management and has years of experience in her native country working for large PR companies. Sarah knows the maritime industry inside out and adds a wealth of knowledge and skills to the NMS team.
